September 2019 - The Taj Ma Garaj highlights
16 October, 2019
RM Sotheby’s generated a sale total of $5.7 million from the 30-car Taj Ma Garaj collection, led by a recently-restored 1957 Porsche 356 A Carrera GT Speedster at $1,380,000 (estimate $1,500,000 – 2,000,000).
The collection’s 1973 Porsche Carrera RS 2.7 was sold as an unfinished project with a wealth of documents and parts, commanding a winning bid of $412,000 (estimate $400,000 – 450,000).
A 2,569-mile 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo which was special-ordered new by the collection’s late owner, John Dixon, smashed its $225,000 – 275,000 estimate, fetching $368,000; while the 47-km 1981 Porsche 924 Carrera GTS Clubsport also put in a strong performance – hammered away for $357,000 (estimate $250,000 – 350,000).
Other highlights included a 1971 Mangosta Sport Buggy – conceived as an upmarket alternative to a standard beach buggy – in a wonderful shade of metallic root-beer-brown, with matching quilted upholstery, which took $106,400 (estimate $50,000 – 75,000); an unraced 1988 Porsche 944 Rothmans Turbo Cup drew $98,000 (estimate $75,000 – 100,000); and Franz Muhr’s wild interpretation of an Outlaw Beetle changed hands for $40,320 (estimate $40,000 – 60,000).
