Ferraris locked out the top five results, headed by a 1972 312 PB that sold for €12,042,500 (estimate €14,000,000 – 18,000,000) at RM Sotheby’s Villa Erba sale in May. RM’s ex-Works car took two wins in 1972 for the Scuderia and formed part of Irvine Laidlaw’s collection from 2005-10. Villa Erba also delivered the 2nd and 5th highest results in Q2 for RM, with its 1961 250 GT SWB fetching €6,586,250 (estimate €7,500,000 – 8,500,000) and a 1956 500 TR Spider selling for €3,717,500 (estimate €4,000,000 – 4,500,000) – both cars coming from the single-owner Aurora Collection.

RM was back in action a month later at Le Mans, where a 1955 Ferrari 121 LM Spider was the star attraction, hammered away for €5,742,500 (estimate €5,500,000 – 6,500,000). Other cars with Le Mans history changing hands at the sale included a 1984 Lancia LC2 which took pole position at the 1984 race (€2,255,000) and a 1932 Aston Martin Le Mans that finished 7th overall in 1932 (€905,000).

Newcomer Monaco Car Auctions sold a 2002 Ferrari Enzo for €5,400,000 (estimate €5,000,000 – 5,500,000) at its inaugural auction in June – the 4th highest result in the quarter. Owned by Fernando Alonso from new, it was the first Enzo produced and had covered only 4,800km.

French auction house Aguttes found a new home for a 1985 Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 Evolution 1 in April at its Tour Auto sale, drawing €587,640 (estimate €450,000 – 650,000).

A 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster with 82,000km comfortably exceeded its €110,000 – 150,000 estimate at Aguttes’ Spring sale earlier in the month, making €183,260. The same auction also saw a meticulously restored four-owner 1966 Citroën DS 21 Majesty Chapron, one of only 20 built, bring €118,860 (estimate €110,000 – 150,000).

Bonhams returned to Cheserex, Switzerland for its Bonmont sale with a catalogue dominated by modern collector cars. A single-owner 2020 Bugatti Chiron with under 5,500km led the results, taking a mid-estimate CHF2,760,000.

An ex-Richard Burns 1999 Subaru Impreza WRC 99 that claimed a stage win at the 2000 Monte Carlo Rally for Burns and co-driver Robert Reid sold for £448,500 (estimate £430,000 – 520,000) at Bonhams’ Goodwood Members’ Meeting. Top performer was a 1931 Bentley 8 Litre Le Mans-Style Tourer at £563,500 (estimate £550,000 – 650,000).

Silverstone Auctions’ run of success with time-warp Fast Fords continued at its Supercar Fest sale, where a 1996 Escort RS Cosworth showing only 76 miles and two passionate owners made £163,125 (estimate £150,000 – 180,000). They also raised a record £601,500 for a unique road-going TVR Cerbera Speed 12.

The Imperial War Museum, Duxford hosted H&H’s June sale, pre-war entries heading to new owners included a 1936 SS Jaguar 100 2.5 Litre which won the RAC Rally in 1937 (£393,000), and a 1933 Lagonda M45 with an uprated Sanction IV engine (£109,125).

Brightwells held a timed online auction for its most valuable car to date, a Ferrari 250 GT SWB Recreation, which attracted plenty of interest and a winning bid of £806,400. Built by renowned marque specialists GTO Engineering over a period of two years using a 250 GTE as donor car, the engine was upgraded to 275-spec, and it has been a regular competitor at Ferrari Owners Club events, covering some 5,000 miles since being completed.

Bonhams’ online sale of a 2000 Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R that was driven by Paul Walker in the film Fast and Furious 4 set a new auction record for the model at $1,357,000. Built by Kaizo Industries to Walker’s specification, it is the hero car and the only true R34 GT-R in the film, the other stunt cars being non-turbo GT-Ts.

Broad Arrow Auctions celebrated Porsche’s 75th anniversary with a single-marque sale in Atlanta. Notable highlights included a matching-numbers 1964 904 Carrera GTS at $2,535,000 (estimate $2,400,000 – 2,800,000); a 1984 962 that finished 4th overall at the 1985 Daytona 24 Hours and took pole at Sebring the same year brought $1,270,000 (estimate $1,000,000 – 1,300,000); and a ‘Factory One-Off’ 1999 911 Classic Club Coupe, built through Porsche’s special request programme, was offered at no reserve and generated $1,325,000.
