A 1961 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster blitzed its €800,000 – 1,000,000 estimate, selling for €1,416,000 at Artcurial’s single-marque Mercedes-Benz sale in Paris on 15 October.
Success among the pre-war cars included a 1934 Nürburg 500 Sport at €679,440 (estimate €700,000 – 850,000); a 1938 320 Cabriolet A at €584,080 (estimate €550,000 – 700,000); and a 1934 380K Sport Roadster at €560,240 (estimate €380,000 – 440,000).
Other notable highlights included a 69,267-km 1988 500 SL which made €91,784 (estimate €50,000 – 80,000); a 1961 300d Cabriolet at €324,840 (estimate €180,000 – 240,000); and a 1965 230 SL at €85,824 (estimate €50,000 – 70,000).
Artcurial reported an 80% sell-through rate and an €8.75 million auction total.
Bonhams sold a 2017 Mercedes-Benz Maybach G650 V12 Biturbo Landaulet for a record €1,200,000 at its Zoute Sale on 6 October, with all proceeds benefitting the charity ‘Laureus Sport for Good’.
Rounding out the top three; a 1968 Ferrari 365 GTC achieved €805,000 (estimate €730,000 – 870,000), while a 1957 Porsche 356 A 1600 Speedster and an 8,000-km 1993 Jaguar XJ220 each drew a respectable mid-estimate €391,000.
Among the other lots exceeding pre-sale estimates, a one-owner 2000 BMW Z8 with 26,000km fetched €316,250 (estimate €180,000 – 240,000); a recently restored 1965 Jaguar E-Type Series I 4.2 Roadster realised €250,700 (estimate €180,000 – 220,000); and a 1961 Chevrolet Corvette, in single family ownership from new, went for €115,000 (estimate €70,000 – 90,000).
The auction generated a total of €5.5 million and a sell-through rate of 83%.
Bonhams held its inaugural Padua auction on 28 October where the top lot was a 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster which brought €897,000 (estimate €750,000 – 950,000. Italian machinery changing hands included a 1960 Maserati 3500 GT Spyder at €638,250 (estimate €600,000 – 700,000), a 1971 Ferrari Dino 246 GT at a mid-estimate €230,000 and a 1963 Fiat-Abarth Monomille GT at €103,500 (estimate €90,000 – 120,000).
Just two of the 12 BMWs offered at Oldtimer Galerie on 14 October failed to find new homes. Top lot was a 56,000-km 2003 Z8 which took CHF225,000 (estimate CHF260,000 – 270,000). Other highlights included a 1987 Alpina B7 Turbo Coupe at CHF55,000 (estimate CHF50,000 – 60,000); a 1989 M3 Cecotto at CHF67,500 (estimate CHF70,000 – 80,000) and a one-owner 70,000-km 1981 745i Turbo at CHF15,500 (estimate CHF15,000 – 20,000).
Other strong results included a 1971 Fiat Dino 2400 Spider at CHF142,500 (estimate CHF125,000 – 150,000); a 1956 Jaguar XK 140 SE OTS at a mid-estimate CHF100,000; and a 1973 Alfa Romeo Montreal, owned by the vendor since 1981, sold for CHF52,000 (estimate CHF45,000 – 55,000).
