Top lot at H&H’s Imperial War Museum sale on 12 October was a 1924 Bentley 3/4.5 litre Tourer at £291,200 (estimate £250,000 – 300,000). The car returned to the UK roads in 2015 following a lengthy restoration in Australia, which included an engine upgrade to 4.5 litre spec.
Elsewhere, strong results included a recently restored 1959 Jaguar XK 150 SE 3.4 Drophead Coupe which soared above its pre-sale estimate of £135,000 – 165,000, selling for £252,000; a 1954 Aston Martin DB2/4 at £192,640 (estimate £180,000 – 220,000); a ‘barn find’ 1964 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8 coupé made double its estimate, fetching £78,400; a 1990 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II at £90,720 (estimate £60,000 – 70,000); and a 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom I, owned by the vendor’s late husband since 1969, sold for £112,000 (estimate £60,000 – 80,000).
A 1972 Porsche 911 S 2.4 headed the results at Silverstone Auctions Porsche Sale on 15 October, taking a mid-estimate £200,250. The car has covered around 1,000 miles since the completion of a bare-metal restoration in 2007, and now shows 147,000 miles on the clock.
A 21,500-mile 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RS made £168,750 (estimate £135,000 – 155,000); a 1991 Porsche 911 RS NGT crept above its high-estimate, changing hands for £157,500; a 1989 Porsche 911 Turbo, serviced by Porsche Centre Leeds at 24,060 miles in 2015, achieved £151,880 (estimate £135,000 – 155,000); and a 21,000-mile 1986 Porsche 911 Turbo ‘flatnose’ sold for £140,630 (estimate £100,000 – 120,000).
A 1929 Austin Seven Chummy made an above-estimate £15,500 at Herefordshire Vintage Auctions on 20 October. The car was restored in the 1970s by its engineer owner and has since covered some 6,000 miles.
Mathewsons 22 October sale saw the top honours go to a 1967 Bristol 410 which comfortably exceeded its pre-sale estimate of £25,000 – 30,000, selling for £34,520.
Notable results at SWVA’s 28 October sale included a 1948 MG TC at £25,650 (estimate £19,500 – 21,500); a 1982 Morgan Plus 8 at £23,760 (estimate £18,500 – 20,000); and a 1937 Rolls-Royce 25/30hp Windovers Limousine, the subject of a two-year restoration in 2002, which realised £20,520 (estimate £21,500 – 23,000).
Star attraction at Richard Edmonds 22 October sale was a 47,000-mile 1978 Aston Martin V8 which brought £98,000 (estimate £90,000 – 100,000), while a 1934 Singer Le Mans made double its estimate, selling for £13,000.
A left-hand drive 1967 Porsche 912 SWB Targa soared above its pre-sale estimate of £33,000 – 36,000, selling for £40,590 at Barons 25 October sale.
A three-owner right-hand drive 1965 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL was the top performer at Classics Central’s 30 October sale, bringing £66,920 (estimate £60,000 – 80,000). Other highlights included a 1989 Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth, which made its lower-estimate, selling at £26,000; a 1988 BMW M635 CSi at £20,272 (estimate £20,000 – 22,000); and a 1978 Mercedes-Benz 230C at £11,312 (estimate £8,500 – 9,500).
