RM Sotheby’s inaugural Munich sale achieved record prices for many of the BMWs offered from the Bavarian Legends Collection, with 19 of the 32 lots more than doubling their lower estimates. The jewel in the collection, a 1958 507 Series II, fetched €1,917,500 (estimate €1,600,000 – 2,000,000), while the ex-Jochen Neerpasch 1980 M1 in a unique factory grey over brown raised €792,500 (estimate €575,000 – 725,000). Spirited bidding saw the 1975 3.0 CSL Batmobile smash its €180,000 – 220,000 estimate at €578,750; an E36 1997 M3 Evolution in Dakar Yellow with 2,752km made an incredible €286,250 against a guide of €20,000 – 40,000; and a 4,698-km 2003 M3 CSL also set new highs for the model at €325,625.
The estimate-busting results weren’t just reserved for motorsport-inspired models, with a 16,919-km 1985 745i hammered away for €201,250 (estimate €30,000 – 40,000); a 1972 2002 Cabriolet showing 96,328km at €138,000 (estimate €50,000 – 70,000); and a time-warp 1989 Z1, barely used with just 61km, selling for €155,250 (estimate €30,000 – 50,000).
