The eagerly anticipated sale of Jean Guikas’ collection saw many of the 76 cars on offer demonstrated at Circuit Paul Ricard as the bidding got underway. A one-of-six 1955 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Competizione carried off the honours for the top result, the ex-Turin Motor Show exhibit raising €6,192,500 at RM Sotheby’s €39.5 million no-reserve auction (estimate €7,000,000 – 9,000,000).
Other highlights among the Italian machinery included a matching-numbers 1958 Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet Series I at €4,420,625 (estimate €5,500,000 – 7,000,000); the 1967 French GT Championship-winning Ferrari 275 GTB with Ferrari Classiche certification took €2,142,500 (estimate €2,400,000 – 2,800,000); and a 1975 Lamborghini Countach LP400 – delivered new to Italy but with much of its life spent in America – exceeded its upper estimate, making €905,000.
