A 1964 Aston Martin DB5 headed the results at Bonhams 18th Aston Martin Works Sale, selling for a mid-estimate £561,500.
Strong results also included a 1961 Aston Martin DB4 at £399,100 (estimate £360,000 – 440,000); a 1989 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante 'X-Pack' 7.0-Litre at £387,900 (estimate £350,000 – 400,000); and a 1970 Aston Martin DB6 Vantage which just pipped its top estimate, changing hands for £382,300.
Other highlights included a 1996 Aston Martin V8 Sportsman Estate Car – one of just three examples built by Aston Martin – fetching £337,500 (estimate £300,000 – 350,000); a single-family owner 2000 Aston Martin Vantage Le Mans making £309,500 (estimate £300,000 – 400,000); and a 1989 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Zagato Volante taking £281,500 (estimate £265,000 – 325,000).
Silverstone Auctions pre-sale star attraction – a 1993 Porsche 911 Turbo 'S' Leichtbau – sold for £556,875 (estimate £475,000 – 575,000), contributing towards total sales of £3.6 million and a sales rate of 72 per cent.
John Cleland’s 1971 Aston Martin DB6 Mark II Vantage found a new home at £348,750 (estimate £325,000 – 375,000); while a 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster ‘Wide Body’ achieved £164,250 (estimate £145,000 – 165,000); and a 1961 Porsche 356 B Cabriolet realised £123,750 (estimate £100,000 – 120,000).
Estimate-busting success included a left-hand drive 1955 Jaguar XK140 SE at £121,500 (estimate £75,000 – 85,000); a 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL at £83,813 (estimate £45,000 – 55,000); and a 1993 Lancia Delta Integrale Evo 2 at £41,063 (estimate £26,000 – 30,000).
A pair of Jaguar E-Types shared the top honours at Brightwells on 17 May; a left-hand drive 1972 Series III V12 Coupe fetched £46,000 (estimate £48,000 – 52,000), as did the 1970 Series II 4.2 Coupe (estimate £35,000 – 38,000).
A 1967 Porsche 911S, which only recently emerged from a six year restoration, brought £203,000 (estimate £220,000 – 250,000) at Historics at Brooklands 20 May sale.
Strong performances included a comprehensively restored 1964 Alvis TE21 Drophead Coupe which blitzed its £75,000 – 85,000 estimate, selling for £156,800; a 18,538-mile 1994 Lotus Esprit Turbo S4 made £28,280 (estimate £20,000 – 24,0000); and a 1972 Jensen Interceptor III, restored in 2005, sold for £40,320 (estimate £20,000 – 30,000).
Restoration projects sold with no reserve included a 1967 Aston Martin DB6 Mk I at £147,840; a 1972 BMW 3.0 CSL at £53,760; and a 1961 BMW Isetta – owned by the vendor since 1963 – went for £7,728.
Among the ‘fast Fords’ on offer at Morris Leslie on 20 May; a 1986 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth – in long term ownership since 1987 – sold for £44,005 (estimate £40,000 – 45,000); a 1992 Ford Escort RS Cosworth going for £30,260 (estimate £28,000 – 30,000); and a 2009 Ford Focus RS realised £17,490 (estimate £16,000 – 18,000).
