Top seller at RM Sotheby's Villa Erba auction went to a 1937 Talbot-Lago T150-C SS 'Goutte d’Eau' Coupé which achieved €3,360,000 (estimate €3,200,000 – 3,800,000). The car was restored by Auto Classique Touraine in 2000 to its original teardrop design first fitted to the chassis, and represents one of only two examples with fully enclosed front fenders.
Other top-tier sales included a 1935 Bugatti Type 57 Atalante Prototype at €3,024,000 (estimate €2,800,000 – 3,200,000); a brand new 1993 Porsche 911 RSR 3.8 – one of only 51 produced – which fetched €2,016,000 (estimate €2,000,000 – 2,200,000); a 1965 Ferrari 275 GTS, in single ownership for over 30 years, made €1,792,000 (estimate €1,600,000 – 1,800,000); and an 11,000-km 2015 Porsche 918 'Weissach' Spyder sold for €1,456,000 (estimate €1,200,000 – 1,400,000).
Elsewhere, highlights included a 1975 Lamborghini Countach LP400 'Periscopio' at €817,600 (estimate €900,000 – 1,100,000); a 1970 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 at €728,000 (estimate €650,000 – 725,000); and a 1961 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8 Roadster with period race history smashed its €250,000 – 300,000 estimate, selling for €582,400.
A Bugatti Type 40 headed the results at Osenat on 1 May, selling for €348,000 (estimate €200,000 – 300,000); while a 1939 Citroën Traction 11 BL Cabriolet took €102,000 (estimate €90,000 – 120,000); and a 1962 Citroën ID19 Cabriolet went for €90,000 (estimate €60,000 – 90,000).
A 12-car ‘castle find’ collection was the star at Bonhams Spa Classic Sale, with the entire collection being offered at no reserve. Strong results among the collection included a 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster at €1,127,000 (estimate €600,000 – 800,000); a 1969 Maserati Ghibli SS 4.9 at €174,800 (estimate €100,000 – 150,000); and a 1980 Aston Martin V8 Volante Convertible at €172,500 (estimate €90,000 – 140,000).
Porsche success included a 1958 356 A 1600 Super Speedster at €322,000 (estimate €300,000 – 400,000); a 1989 911 3.2 'Narrow-Body' Speedster at €276,528 (estimate €270,000 – 320,000); and a 1993 911 Turbo at €196,500 (estimate €200,000 – 250,000).
Notable highlights also included a 21,200-km 2006 Ferrari 575M Superamerica at €293,250 (estimate €280,000 – 340,000); a 2003 Ferrari 456M GTA – with less than 500km from new – at €120,750 (estimate €100,000 – 150,000); the ex-Piercarlo Ghinzani 1986 Osella FA1 G Formula 1 at €89,055 (estimate €90,000 – 120,000); and a lightweight 1971 Ford Capri RS 2600, once owned by Clay Regazzoni, at €80,500 (estimate €80,000 – 120,000).
