A 1935 Fiat 508 CS Balilla “Mille Miglia” took the honours for the top price at Aguttes’ Spring auction on 17 March, just pipping its lower estimate with a winning bid of €200,900.
Aguttes’ well restored 1971 Fiat Dino Spider far exceeded its €80,000 – 120,000 pre-sale estimate, fetching €159,600.
Other strong results included a recently repainted 57,500-km 1975 Maserati Merak at €53,400 (estimate €40,000 – 50,000); a US-spec manual gearbox 1974 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 Roadster – restored in 2015 by Provost – made €100,600 (estimate €70,000 – 110,000); and a 1963 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale which emerged from a two year restoration in 2007 went for €106,500 (estimate €80,000 – 120,000).
A 1939 Citroën Big Six was the stand-out performer among 12 cars offered from a Swiss collection, changing hands for €133,380 (estimate €40,000 – 70,000). Believed to be the sole known survivor of the pre-war examples completed in Slough, the car was the subject of an exacting restoration carried out between 2016 and 2018, and came complete with a traceable history from new – having started life in the Diplomatic service in South Africa.
Classicbid’s Retro Classics sale in Stuttgart was headed by a three-owner 193,000-km 1972 BMW 3.0 CS, in dry storage for the past 30 years, which brought €53,600.
Pre-war machinery dominated the results at Osenat’s 23 March sale where a 1902 Gardner-Serpollet Type F raised €252,000 (estimate €200,000 – 250,000), a 1937 Delahaye 135 M Cabriolet with elegant coachwork by Dubos garnered €192,000 (estimate €150,000 – 200,000), and an 1898 Delahaye Type O achieved €156,000 (estimate €100,000 – 150,000).
Leclere’s restoration project 1961 Jaguar E-Type Series I Roadster blitzed its €50,000 – 70,000 guide, taking €112,800 at the sale held during the Avignon Motor Festival on 24 March. The left-hand drive ‘Flat-Floor’ roadster was delivered new to its first owner in Brussels, prior to being taken to Niger in 1978 where it remained until 2014.
Notable highlights included a 1969 Maserati Mexico 4.2 which fetched its lower-estimate of €115,200; a 20,838-km 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster drew €220,800; and a restored 1983 Peugeot 504 Cabriolet eclipsed its €25,000 – 30,000 guide, selling for €34,200.
