Bonhams hosted its annual single-marque Mercedes-Benz sale in Stuttgart on 19 March. With a number of the star pre-war entries falling to sell, it was a 7,200-km 2009 SLR McLaren ‘Stirling Moss’ that topped the charts, fetching €2,3000,000 (estimate €2,000,000 – 2,400,000).
Other highlights included; a 1926 Model K La Baule Transformable, with a 6.2-Litre 100/140 PS supercharged engine, selling for €862,500 (estimate €800,000 – 1,200,000); a 1957 300 Sc making €793,500 (estimate €750,000 – 900,000); and a 190E 2.5-16 Evolution 2 achieving €143,750 (estimate €140,000 – 180,000).
A rare 1936 Delage D8, one of only two examples with bodywork by De Villars, was the star performer at Osenat’s Fontainebleau sale on 20 March, smashing its estimate and finding a new home at €318,000 (estimate €200,000 – 250,000). All three Citroën DSs changed hands, led by a 1963 19 Cabriolet at €132,000 (estimate €120,000 – 150,000), a recently restored 1972 23 IE Pallas achieved close to double its low estimate, selling for €49,200 and a 1966 21 realised €16,800 (estimate €15,000 – 20,000).
Elsewhere, notable sales included; a 117,000-km 1987 Ferrari 328 GTS at €102,000 (estimate €85,000 – 95,000); a 1969 Porsche 911 2.0 Targa made €102,000 (estimate €75,000 – 95,000); and a 1954 Jaguar XK 120 Fixedhead Coupe just pipped its top-estimate, fetching €81,600.
