The Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart was the venue for Bonhams’ 45-lot single-marque Mercedes-Benz auction. Topping the sales were the two star cars from the 1930s; a 1938 540 K Cabriolet A making €2,760,000 (estimate €2,000,000 – 2,500,000) and a 770 Cabriolet D achieving €2,311,500 (estimate €2,300,000 – 2,800,000).
Other notable highlights included all four 300 SLs selling for in excess of €1 million each, just over their low estimates. Elsewhere, a 2007 SLR McLaren Roadster, ordered new by a 70-year old lady for her birthday, found a new home at €284,050, as did a 1986 500 SL with less than 8,000km from new, which made €100,050 (estimate €75,000 – 90,000).
Osenat’s Fontainebleau sale saw estimates smashed as the 1939 Citroën Traction 15/6 Cabriolet fetched €612,440, more than double its estimate; and a one-owner 1977 Ferrari 308 GTB with 90,000km sold for €93,600, against a pre-sale estimate of €30,000 – 35,000.
