Bonhams returned to Greenwich on 4 June for its annual Concours d'Elegance sale, with a varied inventory of European sports and supercars complementing the traditional American classics – generating a sale total of $7.3 million and an impressive 92% sell-through rate.
Heading the results was a Euro-spec 35,000-km 1990 Ferrari F40 at $880,000 (estimate $875,000 – 975,000); a 1932 Bugatti Type 49 with coachwork by Labourdette at $676,500 (estimate $650,000 – 850,000); and a 1993 Bugatti EB110 at a mid-estimate $605,000.
All three Aston Martins on offer also found new homes; the 1960 Aston Martin DB4 Series II making $346,500 (estimate $350,000 – 400,000); a 1985 Aston Martin Lagonda with bills in excess of $70,000 since 2013 took $52,800 (estimate $70,000 – 90,000); and a two-owner 2003 Aston Martin Vanquish with 8,000 miles from new fetched $89,100 (estimate $90,000 – 120,000).
Success among the pre-war machinery included a 1925 Bentley 3 Litre Four Seater Tourer – with known history from new – at $272,250 (estimate $275,000 – 325,000); a 1932 Chrysler CL Imperial Custom Convertible, one of just 49 examples built, which achieved $181,500 (estimate $220,000 – 260,000); and a recently restored 1928 Packard Custom Eight Model 4-43 Convertible brought $126,500 (estimate $125,000 – 175,000).

RM Sotheby’s reported total sales of $9.3 million from its single-day 175 lot Santa Monica auction on 24 June, held for the first time in partnership with sister company Auctions America.
A matching-numbers 1960 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster claimed the honours for the top result, narrowly missing its reserve during the event, it sold immediately afterwards for its low-estimate $1,100,000.
Other top-tier success included a 16,000-mile 1992 Ferrari F40 at $957,000 (estimate $900,000 – 1,100,000); a 1929 Duesenberg Model J Convertible at a mid-estimate $880,000; and a 1930 Cadillac V-16 Roadster blitzed its $450,000 – 550,000 pre-sale estimate, selling for $797,500.
