A two-owner 1991 Ferrari F40 turned in the star performance at Bonhams’ Gstaad sale at the beginning of July, estimated to fetch CHF1,600,000 – 1,800,000 it sold to a telephone bidder for CHF1,955,000, helping Bonhams generate a total of more than CHF7.5 million and a sell-through rate of 89%. Stored in recent years, it had covered very few miles since its last service was carried out in 2015 at 20,089km, with the fuel tanks having been replaced the previous year at a cost of CHF26,285.

Artcurial made a successful return to the Le Mans Classic in July, where 75% of its line-up found new homes, led by the catalogue topping Maserati A6GCS/53, with plenty of period competition history, making a mid-estimate €3,418,000. Highlight among the 24 barn-find entries from the late Pierre Héron’s collection was a 1948 Delahaye 135M Cabriolet, one of 18 built by Figoni et Falaschi known at ‘El Glaoui’. Exhibited at the 1948 Paris Motor Show, chassis 800833 had been owned by Héron since 1969 and was now in need of a complete restoration. Spirited bidding on the day saw it comfortably eclipse its €150,000 – 200,000 guide, hammered away for €357,600.

Renowned coachbuilder Rod Jolley used Figoni et Falaschi's styling cues as the inspiration for the design of a 1934 Bentley 3½ Litre, bodied by him in the 1980s, that crossed the block at H&H’s Buxton sale on 27 July. Owned by the same family for the past 25 years, the elegant tourer brought a well-deserved £117,000 (estimate £80,000 – 90,000).

Notable sales among the British sports cars offered at Brightwells’ timed online auction included a 1961 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8 Roadster at £84,000 (estimate £75,000 – 90,000); a 1973 Lotus Elan Sprint, nut-and-bolt restored in the 1980s drew £33,320 (estimate £34,000 – 38,000); and a 1962 Triumph TR4 with overdrive, described as no show queen but a good driver, sold for £15,680 (estimate £15,000 – 17,000).
