Artcurial reported an auction total of €8,717,752 from their fourth Le Mans Classic sale on 9 July, with a noticeable absence of British buyers this year following the recent Brexit vote and the weak Sterling/Euro rate. Heading the results was the 1977 Porsche 935, a veteran of three Le Mans 24-Hour races, which achieved a mid-estimate €1,301,600.
Highlights included a 1961 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster, selling for €953,600 (estimate €700,000 – 1,100,000); a 1937 Bugatti Type 57 Ventoux blitzed its pre-sale estimate, taking €524,500 (estimate €250,000 – 350,000); a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS Touring fetched €476,800 (estimate €420,000 – 580,000); and a 1966 McLaren M1B made €216,944 (estimate €200,000 – 260,000).
Elsewhere a 1940 BMW 327 Cabriolet, restored in 1999, sold for €184,760 (estimate €120,000 – 160,000); a 1958 Talbot T14 LS Coupe changed hands for €220,520 (estimate €200,000 – 250,000); a 1988 Porsche 928 S4 went for €36,952 (estimate €20,000 – 30,000); and a 1959 Mercedes-Benz 220 S recorded a sale at €101,320 (estimate €60,000 – 80,000).
