Artcurial’s ‘Estate of a friend of Maria Callas’ sale, held in Monte Carlo, featured a 13-car collection headed by a 1989 Aston Martin Lagonda which outstripped expectations and obliterated its pre-sale estimate of €60,000, selling for €157,344. This two-owner Series 4 car, one of only 100 manufactured, had covered just 17,163km from new. Another car achieving a strong result was a 1992 Lamborghini Diablo which made €137,080 (estimate €40,000 – 80,000); owned by the collector since 1994 and showing an unwarranted but believed genuine 12,035km.
The two ex-Maria Callas Mercedes-Benz 600s, each with an estimate of €60,000 – 100,000, sold well; the 1971 car taking €119,200 and the 1966 example brought €106,088, whilst a 1990 Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible fetched €77,480 (estimate €40,000 – 60,000).
