Gooding & Company’s two-owner 5,200-mile 1995 Ferrari F50 from a private collection of Ferrari Spiders wound up as the most expensive car sold at this year’s Scottsdale auctions, bringing $3,222,500 (estimate $3,200,000 – 3,600,000). Other notable results from the six-car collection which was 100% sold included an award-winning 1972 365 GTS/4 Daytona at $1,930,000 (estimate $2,000,000 – 2,400,000), a 1960 250 GT Cabriolet Series II at $1,462,500 (estimate $1,300,000 – 1,500,000), and a 2001 550 Barchetta with just 682 miles from new which made $406,500 (estimate $400,000 – 500,000).
Gooding’s top three was rounded off with an ex-Briggs Cunningham Collection 1932 Hispano-Suiza J12 Dual Cowl which comfortably exceeded its $1,500,000 – 2,000,000 estimate, setting a world auction record at $2,425,000, and a 6,300-mile 1948 Tucker 48 at a mid-estimate $2,040,000.
An elegant one-off 1956 Jaguar XK 140 ‘Aerodyne’ that was created by Nissan Designer John Toom made over double its lower estimate, selling for $280,000. Other strong performers included a 1937 BMW 328, in single-family ownership since 1945, which blitzed its $350,000 – 450,000 guide, raising $830,000; and a 7,600-km 1990 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II (estimate $340,000 – 380,000) selling for $434,000 – a new auction record for the model.
Gooding and Company reported a sale total of $35.86 million and an 89% sell-through rate.

Supercars changing hands at RM Sotheby’s two-day sale included a 200-mile 2018 Pagani Huayra Roadster which netted the Canadian auction house its top result at $2,370,000 (estimate $2,500,000 – 2,700,000); a 720-mile 2008 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 narrowly edged past its upper estimate, drawing $1,105,000; and a single-owner 2,268-mile 1991 Vector W8 which was listed at $300,000 – 450,000 set a new record with a final bid of $720,000.
Both the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLs on offer found new homes; the matching-numbers 1955 Gullwing that had been restored in 2013 sold for $1,270,000 (estimate $1,150,000 – 1,300,000), and the two-owner 1957 Roadster with 25,700 miles went for $973,000 (estimate $950,000 – 1,150,000).
Other blue-chip sales included a multi-platinum award winning 1967 Ferrari 330 GTS with Ferrari Classiche certification at $1,710,000 (estimate $1,800,000 – 2,200,000); a three-owner 1971 Lamborghini Miura SV at $1,391,000 (estimate $1,400,000 – 1,600,000); and a 1930 Cadillac V-16 Sport Phaeton from The John D. Groendyke Collection which achieved a mid-estimate $1,105,000.

A 1951 Ferrari 212 Inter Cabriolet – one of only four such examples with similar coachwork by Vignale – headed the results at Bonhams, hammered away for $1,930,000 (estimate $2,000,000 – 2,400,000).
The first Dodge Viper RT/10 off the production line – owned by Chrysler boss Lee Iacocca from new – made short work of its $100,000 – 125,000 estimate, selling for $285,500. Chassis 001 had covered less than 6,500 miles since its initial press tour and subsequent consignment to Iacocca’s private collection.
Highlights also included a recently refreshed 1955 Lancia Aurelia B24S Spider America at $810,000 (estimate $850,000 – 1,050,000); a 24,764-mile 1995 Ferrari F512M at a mid-estimate $313,000; and a two-owner 21,000-mile 1978 Porsche 928, in its original shade of Cashmere Beige with matching Pasha interior, which brought $75,040 (estimate $45,000 – 55,000).
