A 1958 Jaguar XK 150 smashed its £34,000 – 37,500 pre-sale estimate at SWVA on 26 January, going for £46,000.
Top sale on the day was a 1979 Porsche 911 Turbo which also beat its guide, selling for £52,500 (estimate £45,000 – 49,000). Delivered new to Australia, the 119,000-mile 930 was imported into the UK in 1980 and remained in the previous owner’s custody for 30 years.
Strong interest in the 1973 Aston Martin V8 saw it make double its lower estimate, bringing £44,000. The car had been garaged for some 20 years until last November and required recommissioning.
Bidding on the well-presented 1972 Lotus Europa Twin Cam stopped shy of its £18,500 – 19,500 estimate, with the car changing hands for £16,000. A comprehensive restoration by the vendor – at a cost in excess of £20,000 – included a new galvanised chassis, wiring loom, fuel tanks, plus a suspension overhaul and interior re-trim.
Restoration projects finding new homes at Anglia Car Auctions’ 27 January sale included a right-hand drive 1971 Aston Martin DBS V8, entered at no reserve, which fetched £65,720 and a 1968 Jensen FF – stored in a dry container for more than 30 years – achieved £43,460 (estimate £20,000 – 30,000).
Other highlights included the ex- 1963 London Motor Show Alvis TE21, in single family ownership until 1994 and with only one further keeper since, which took £23,320 (estimate £22,000 – 26,000); a three owner 43,212-mile 2000 BMW M5 realised £24,910 (estimate £20,000 – 25,000); and a 1960 Austin-Healey Sprite brought a mid-estimate £18,550.
