The main attraction at Anglia Car Auctions on 28 January was their pre-sale favourite – a 1957 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL. The right-hand drive example soared above its £60,000 – 80,000 estimate, selling for £110,250.
All three Ferraris on offer found new homes; a 1980 308 GTB, re-sprayed and overhauled in 2015, took a mid-estimate £71,400; a 32,300-mile 1998 456M GTA, originally owned by the Sultan of Brunei fetched £53,550 (estimate £44,000 – 48,000); and a 1982 308 GTBi just pipped its top estimate, making £50,400.
Other highlights included a restoration project 1974 BMW 3.0 CSL at £50,400 (estimate £32,500 – 40,000); a manual gearbox 98,000-mile 1995 Porsche 928 GTS at £50,400 (estimate £36,000 – 40,000); a right-hand drive 1964 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL at £43,050 (estimate £28,000 – 34,000); and a two-owner 29,600-mile 1971 Range Rover ‘Suffix A’ at £33,600 (estimate £25,000 – 30,000).
Top lot at SWVA’s 27 January was a 1967 Austin Mini Cooper 1275 S which smashed its pre-sale estimate of £23,000 – 26,000, recording a sale at £44,000.
Other strong results included a 1972 Ford Escort BDA RS 1600, unused since 1985, which sold for £42,500 (estimate £35,000 – 38,000); a 1973 BMW 3.0 Si achieved £15,400 (estimate £8,000 – 9,000); and a 1940 Packard Model 120 Eight Coupe made £18,250 (estimate £10,000 – 12,000).
