The car that gave Matra its first victory at Le Mans set a new record when it crossed the block at Artcurial’s Paris sale on 5 February in front of a select group of in-room bidders; the 1972 MS 670 becoming the most expensive Matra to sell at auction with an all-in price including TVA of €6,907,200 (estimate €4,000,000 – 7,500,000).
Records continued to be broken with the Group B collection; a 1988 Audi Sport Quattro S1 achieving the highest price ever paid at auction for a rally car at €2,016,600 (estimate €1,000,000 – 1,300,000), and a 1985 Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 Evolution 2 signalled a new high-water mark for a 205 at €977,440 (estimate €600,000 – 800,000).

A 1974 Ferrari 365 GT4 BB was the star among five cars offered from the single-owner Gold Collection at RM Sotheby’s 13 February sale. One of only three 365 GT4 BBs originally finished in Oro Chiaro, it had covered less than 20,000km from new and changed hands for a top-estimate €308,750.
RM’s 1971 Lamborghini Miura SV had spent a number of years as a Jota hommage before being restored to its original spec in 2016. Guided at €2,100,000 – 2,500,000 it was hammered away for €2,423,750. Other Lamborghini success included an ex-Rod Stewart 1977 Countach LP400 at €775,625 (estimate €750,000 – 900,000), and a UK-delivered left-hand drive 1967 400 GT, the subject of a recently completed four-year restoration by marque experts, which made €477,500 (estimate €450,000 – 550,000).
Strong bidding saw the unique 1993 Isdera Commendatore 112i smash its €400,000 – 600,000 estimate, selling for €1,113,125, and a 3,503-km 1994 Ferrari 348 GT Competizione – one of 11 built by Michelotto – bring €359,375 (estimate €250,000 – 290,000).
Top Porsche honours went to a 1952 356 at an above-estimate €460,000. The ‘split-window’ coupe with a non-original engine had been driven just 123km since a nut-and-bolt restoration by Reinhold Plank of Aircooled.
