RM Sotheby’s once again rounded off its year with a big-ticket sale – the ex-Works 1956 Ferrari 290 MM achieving $22,005,000 at The Petersen Automotive Museum Auction on 8 December (estimate $22,000,000 – 26,000,000).
Supercars finding new homes included a 4,000-km 1989 Ferrari F40 at $1,545,000 (estimate $1,200,000 – 1,600,000); a 2015 Porsche 918 'Weissach' Spyder with just 279 miles from new at $1,534,000 (estimate $1,500,000 – 1,700,000); and a 1981 Lamborghini Countach LP400S Series II which had been in single-family ownership since 1986 fetched $368,000 (estimate $375,000 – 450,000).
The stunning recreation of Ed Roth’s unique "Mysterion" blasted past its $100,000 – 150,000 estimate, taking $246,400; while the Mercury “Stengel” Custom that was built in 1941 by Coachcraft made its lower estimate, selling for $252,000.
Other notable highlights included a 1969 Mercedes-Benz 600 Four-Door Pullman – with recent bills for $41,000 in maintenance work – which comfortably exceeded its pre-sale estimate, bringing $335,000 (estimate $200,000 – 250,000); a 1971 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV drawing $2,205,000 (estimate $2,100,000 – 2,500,000); and a 60,000-km 1965 Lamborghini 350 GT going for $555,000 (estimate $550,000 – 700,000).
RM Sotheby’s reported a sale total of $40 million with 88% of all lots sold.
