Figures from RM Sotheby’s third New York sale didn’t disappoint, with a total of $45.5 million and an 84% sell-through rate. The top three cars all found new homes; a 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider Competizione with period Le Mans history selling for $17,990,000 (estimate $14,000,000 – 17,000,000); a 1952 Jaguar C-Type raced by Phil Hill made $5,285,000 (estimate $5,500,000 – 7,000,000); and the first ever Bugatti Chiron offered at auction fetched a mid-estimate $3,772,500.
Other notable success included a concours award-winning 1965 Aston Martin DB5 convertible at $2,700,000 (estimate $2,450,000 – 2,650,000); a 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster at $1,407,500 (estimate $1,250,000 – 1,500,000); and a 15,708-km 1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary at $268,800 (estimate $200,000 – 250,000).
