A collection of twelve Japanese performance cars were among the 188 lots going under the hammer at Classic Car Auctions’ biggest sale to date. A 2000 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec with circa 40,000 miles on the clock was the star attraction, smashing its £30,000 – 40,000 estimate with a final bid of £62,715.
Other strong results from the collection included a pair of Tommi Makkinen Edition Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIs; a 56,418-mile Passion Red example making £27,750 (estimate £15,000 – 20,000) and a white 34,933-miler selling for £24,975 (estimate £12,000 – 15,000); while a right-hand drive 2000 Honda NSX showing 33,055 miles achieved £53,280 (estimate £40,000 – 50,000).
Elsewhere, a 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 Roadster wound up as the top sale of the day at £68,265 (estimate £68,000 – 78,000), and a 1972 Rover P5B 3.5 Coupe with a warranted mileage of 20,403 which had been recently recommissioned following long term storage made £39,405 (estimate £25,000 – 30,000).
Highlights among the modern classics on offer included a 30,761-mile 2005 Renault Clio V6 Phase 2 going for £34,410 (estimate £20,000 – 25,000); a 62,900-mile 2001 BMW Z3M Coupe with the later S54 engine bringing £33,855 (estimate £35,000 – 45,000); and a 13,298-mile 2011 BMW 1M pipped its upper estimate, fetching £43,845.
Mathewsons’ restoration project 1967 Aston Martin DB6 showing 25,500 miles changed hands for £126,500 at their 17 August sale. Other British machinery finding new homes included a 1970 Jaguar E-Type Series II 4.2 Coupe at £32,525 and a 1961 Alvis TD21 at £20,425 (estimate £22,000 – 25,000).
Morris Leslie’s 17 August sale saw a 1970 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Roadster make £45,580, against its guide of £50,000 – 60,000. The US-spec car started life in San Diego, returning to the UK in 1989 when it was converted to right-hand drive.
Success among the Porsches included a 66,800-mile 1984 911 Turbo which took a mid-estimate £60,950; a 109,000-mile 1987 911 ‘Wide-Body’ drew £42,400 (estimate £40,000 – 50,000); and an 87,037-mile 1987 911 Carrera Super Sport Cabriolet went for £40,280 (estimate £45,000 – 55,000).
