A 1958 Jaguar XK 150 Fixed Head Coupe was among the 196 cars crossing the block at ACA’s 26 August sale. Restored during the early ‘90s after being discovered as a barn find, the car sailed past its £37,500 – 42,500 pre-sale estimate, going for £44,362.
Elsewhere, a recently restored left-hand drive 1958 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL sold for a mid-estimate £98,700; a 1969 Austin Mini Cooper brought £26,250 (estimate £25,000 – 35,000); a 97,281-mile 1993 Porsche 928 GTS fetched £31,500 (estimate £35,000 – 40,000)); and a Bahama yellow 1969 Rolls Royce Mulliner Park Ward Coupe, purchased new by the music producer Mickie Most, made £26,250 (estimate £25,000 – 30,000). Overall ACA reported an 84% sell-through rate.
Highlights among the sales at Mathewsons on 12 August included a 1950 Wolseley 25hp – the top sale on the day at a mid-estimate £27,100, a restored 1974 Rover 3500S Estate at £14,606 (estimate £15,000 – 16,000) and a left-hand drive 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible at £14,500 (estimate £15,000 – 17,000).
Brightwells hosted a Modern Classics sale at Leominster on 17 August with 93 cars going under the hammer. Notable success among the ‘youngtimers’ included a 54,800-mile 2001 Maserati 3200 GTS at £11,000 – bang on its lower estimate; a 47,000-mile 1991 BMW 325i SE at £9,900 (estimate £8,000 – 10,000); and the ‘King of the ‘90s Estates’ – a Volvo 850 T5R – in a wonderful shade of Cream Yellow, which sold for £6,655 (estimate £6,500 – 7,500).
Top results at Morris Leslie’s 19 August sale included a 1979 Porsche 911 Turbo, which changed hands for a mid-estimate £53,000; a 1999 Land Rover Defender V8 50th Anniversary with only 17,012 miles from new at £41,340 (estimate £30,000 – 35,000); and a 43,902-mile 2004 Bentley Continental GT at £22,790 (estimate £22,000 – 24,000).
