Star performer at Artcurial’s 12th Automobiles sur les Champ sale on 8 April was a 1939 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Spider which fetched €274,160 (estimate €200,000 – 300,000). The elegant spider bodywork was constructed in the late 1980s, following the car’s discovery by the collector Corrado Cupellini at a horse race track in France.
Rounding out the top five; a 42,000-mile 1970 Lamborghini Espada Series 2 sold for €109,664 (estimate €100,000 – 140,000); a 1993 Ferrari 512 TR with just over 60,000km from new took €106,088 (estimate €100,000 – 140,000); a 63,000-km 2004 Ferrari 575M HGTE brought €98,936 (estimate €80,000 – 100,000); and a one-owner 21,300-km 1982 Ferrari 400i with a manual gearbox beat its €65,000 – 85,000 estimate, selling for €90,592.
Notable sales also included a 1990 Peugeot 205 GTi Griffe edition, which had covered just 28,700km in the hands of its two owners, at €48,872 (estimate €20,000 – 40,000); a recently restored 1976 Range Rover at €71,520 (estimate €50,000 – 80,000); and a 1973 Citroën Méhari at €23,840 (estimate €12,000 – 18,000).
Artcurial reported a sale total of €2.52 million and a 71% sell-through rate.
Aguttes ran two sales in April, with a 1966 Jaguar E-Type Series I 4.2 Roadster posting the top result, selling for €101,936 (estimate €100,000 – 120,000).
A 1929 Amilcar CGSS drew a mid-estimate €91,640, while a 1987 Porsche 911 3.2 Jubilé – one of 505 coupes produced – changed hands for €56,176 (estimate €50,000 – 70,000) and a 1968 Lotus Elan S4 raised €40,040 (estimate €36,000 – 42,000).
Stanislas Machoïr’s 1971 Lamborghini Espada found a new home at €75,600 (estimate €60,000 – 80,000). Other notable Italian success included a 1981 Ferrari 308 GTBi at €67,200 (estimate €40,000 – 50,000) and a 1972 Fiat Dino 2400 Coupe realised €58,800 (estimate €50,000 – 60,000).
