Star of the show at CCA’s Classic Car and Restoration sale was a two-owner 15,300-mile 1985 BMW M635 CSi which smashed its £40,000 – 50,000 estimate, selling for £100,100. Healthy demand for 6 series cars continued on day two; a 1989 BMW 635 CSi was well sold at £19,250, against an estimate of £8,000 – 10,000; and a three-owner 46,800-mile 1985 BMW 635 CSi fetched £31,900 (estimate £14,000 – 18,000).
Other strong results included a recently restored 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III – the final example of the model produced – at £96,800 (estimate £75,000 – 90,000); a 1973 Porsche 911E 2.4 Targa at £95,150 (estimate £50,000 – 60,000); a 1965 Citroën 2CV Sahara at £68,200 (estimate £60,000 – 65,000); and a barn-find 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL at £73,700 (estimate £20,000 – 25,000).
CCA reported 75 per cent of the cars sold, with a sale total of £2.4 million.
A 1923 Vauxhall OD 23-60 Kington Tourer was the top result at Brightwells’ debut sale at Bicester Heritage on 5 April, achieving a low-estimate £65,000.
Other highlights included a left-hand drive 1955 Jaguar XK140 SE FHC realising £50,000 (estimate £52,000 – 58,000); a 1927 Delage DIS making £45,000 (estimate £37,000 – 42,000); a 1927 Sunbeam 25hp Tourer sold for £40,800 (estimate £32,000 – 40,000); and a 1939 Hotchkiss 686 Monte Carlo Decouvrable changed hands at a mid-estimate £40,000.
Leading the sale at Anglia Car Auctions on 8 April was a 1958 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL which soared above its £60,000 – 70,000 estimate, selling for £92,400; while a 1939 AC 16/80 Special went for £73,500 (estimate £18,000 – 22,000) and a 1966 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL took £57,750 (estimate £39,000 – 45,000).
A 1979 Aston Martin V8 Series IV Oscar India headed the results at Charterhouse’s 12 April sale, fetching £52,000 (estimate £45,000 – 55,000).
Top seller at Brightwells Modern Classics auction was a 53,000-mile 1982 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL which brought £12,200 (estimate £13,000 – 15,000).
Highlights among the sales at Barons on 22 April included a 50,000-mile 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 Roadster at £81,400 (estimate £60,000 – 70,000); a 1976 Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible at £35,750 (estimate £36,000 – 40,000); and a 1961 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible at £28,050 (estimate £30,000 – 35,000).
A 1966 Morris Mini Cooper achieved £14,000 (estimate £14,500 – 15,500) at Cheffins, while pre-war success included a 1919 Stanley Model 735 B Steam Car at £35,000; a 1936 Rolls-Royce 25/30hp Thrupp & Maberley 4 door Light Tourer at £34,000 (estimate £30,000 – 40,000); and a 1926 Bullnose Morris Cowley at £12,000 (estimate £14,000 – 16,000).
Top lot at Mathewsons on 22 April was a 1971 Alfa Romeo GT Junior – originally a 1300 and subsequently upgraded to 1600 engine – which found a new home at £16,350 (estimate £15,000 – 18,000).
