One of the most significant MGs in the company’s 100-year history heads the pre-war machinery on offer at Bonhams’ Goodwood Revival sale on 7 September. The ex-Works K3 Magnette picked up a class win in the 1933 Mille Miglia in the hands of Captain George Eyston and was driven to victory at that year’s RAC Tourist Trophy by Tazio Nuvolari, after which it was sent on a promotional tour of MG dealerships. Owned by the late Peter Briggs since 1984, it is guided at £700,000 – 800,000.
Other competition cars include an ex-Works 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC 5.0 'Rallyewagen' that came home 2nd in the 1980 Rally Codasur in Argentina with Hannu Mikkola at the wheel (estimate £200,000 – 300,000), and an ex-Alan Mann Racing Ford Escort that was campaigned in period by Graham Hill, Jackie Oliver and Peter Arundell (estimate £180,000 – 250,000).
Audi Sport Quattros are a rare sight at auction, Bonham’s example with 65,788km has been owned by the consignor since 1993 and carries a pre-sale estimate of £495,000 – 595,000. Another long-term owner is a 68,800-mile 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Touring, an original UK-supplied car, it was purchased by the present family in 1976 and is expected to fetch £400,000 – 500,000.

An ex-Jay Kay Aston Martin V8 Vantage X Pack is the star attraction at Historics’ Ascot Racecourse sale on 14 September. Believed to be one of only two finished in Litchfield Black, it has covered 37,594 miles and comes with a manual gearbox (estimate £355,000 – 400,000).
The sale also features a 1973 Alpine A110 which is credited with having finished 3rd in the 1973 Tour de Corse rally (estimate £160,000 – 180,000); a one-owner 1996 Ford Escort RS Cosworth with 17,450 miles (estimate £75,000 – 85,000); and a 1939 Bentley 4¼ Litre Sedanca Coupé by Thrupp & Maberly which emerged from a two-year £170,000 restoration in 2004 (estimate £210,000 – 260,000).
