September 2019 - The Taj Ma Garaj preview
10 September, 2019
30 Porsches and Volkswagens from the late John Dixon’s eclectic Taj Ma Garaj collection will be auctioned at RM Sotheby’s no reserve sale on 28 September in Dayton, Ohio. Jewel in the catalogue is a 1957 Porsche 356 A Carrera GT Speedster with a pre-sale estimate of $1,500,000 – 2,000,000. The rare ‘Four-Cam’ was acquired by Dixon in 1998 and is described as concours following a recent restoration.
A 1981 Porsche 924 Carrera GTS which has covered a mere 47-km from new joined Dixon’s collection in 2005 (estimate $250,000 – 350,000). The two-owner car is one of only 50 examples produced, and is one of the few that were supplied with the more powerful Clubsport spec giving 275 bhp and a 0-60 time of 5.2 seconds.
Notable 911s include a three-owner 1967 S showing 28,980 miles (estimate $350,000 – 450,000); a partially restored first-series 1973 Carrera RS 2.7 with known history from new (estimate $400,000 – 450,000): and a 13,738-mile Turbo ‘Flat-Nose’ (estimate $175,000 – 225,000).
Among the ‘customs’ that Dixon commissioned is a 1953 Porsche 356 Limousine – built for his daughter’s wedding – with a guide of $150,000 – 250,000, and a 1958 Porsche 356 Delivery ‘Kreuzer’ at $100,000 – 150,000.
