Aston Martins feature prominently among the cars on offer at RM Sotheby’s 10th anniversary London sale, to be held on 7 September at Battersea Evolution. Leading the group is a 1960 DB4GT, one of only 75 factory-bodied cars produced, with a pre-sale estimate of £2,200,000 – 2,500,000. Other examples of the marque include a 1963 DB4 Series V Convertible estimated at £950,000 – 1,100,000; a left-hand drive 1961 DB4 Series II (estimate £480,000 – 520,000); and a one-owner 4,200-km 2012 V12 Zagato (estimate £525,000 – 600,000).
Other headline cars include a 2003 Ferrari Enzo (estimate £1,200,000 – 1,400,000); a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet Series II (estimate £1,000,000 – 1,350,000); a 1939 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Sport Cabriolet (estimate £1,000,000 – 1,200,000); and a 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster, the subject of a recent two year restoration by the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center (estimate £900,000 – 1,000,000).
Elsewhere, a 32,672-mile 1986 Audi Sport Quattro is estimated at £290,000 – 320,000; a one-owner 2011 Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG Black Series, which has covered 2,360km from new, is estimated at £145,000 – 205,000; and a 1986 Renault 5 Maxi Turbo carries a pre-sale estimate of £290,000 – 360,000.
Among no fewer than 12 Porsche 911s going under the hammer is a 12,730-km 1995 GT2 (estimate £750,000 – 850,000); a 1993 RS 3.8, one of just 55 built (estimate £400,000 – 500,000); a one-owner 8,918-km 1995 RS Clubsport (estimate £220,000 – 260,000); and a 1993 Turbo S Lightweight with 6,303km from new (estimate £210,000 – 250,000).
Bonhams returns to Goodwood on 10 September for their traditional Revival sale, headed by a 1956 Porsche 550 RS Spyder with a pre-sale estimate of £4,700,000 – 6,200,000. Chassis ‘090’ has never been restored and won the FIVA award for originality at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in 2010.
Also consigned is the ex-Works 1936 Aston Martin 2-Litre Speed Model 'Red Dragon' (estimate £1,600,000 – 2,000,000). Chassis H6/711/U was raced by Dick Seaman in the 1936 RAC TT at Ards, before being sold to Eddie Hertzberger who drove it at Spa, Le Mans and the 1937 and 1938 Mille Miglia races.
Other notable entries include a 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB, one of just 48 right-hand drive examples (estimate £1,100,000 – 1,500,000); a 1970 Aston Martin DB6 Volante (estimate £800,000 – 1,000,000); a 1950 Frazer Nash Le Mans Replica with period competition history (estimate £580,000 – 640,000); and a 17,000-mile 2000 Aston Martin Vantage Le Mans V600, one of 40 made (estimate £350,000 – 450,000).
Group B Rally cars include a 1986 Ford RS200, with period WRC competition history in the hands of Kalle Grundel/Benny Melander (estimate £280,000 – 340,000) and a 1985 MG Metro 6R4 (estimate £100,000 – 120,000).
Four Lamborghinis are also set to go across the block; a right-hand drive 1990 Countach 25th Anniversary with 10,800 miles from new (estimate £200,000 – 250,000); a 1997 Diablo SV (estimate £200,000 – 250,000); a 1991 Diablo (estimate £95,000 – 125,000); and a 1974 Espada Series III, owned by the vendor since 1997 (estimate £60,000 – 80,000).
A 1932 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 5th Series Gran Turismo Compressore is the star attraction at Bonhams Beaulieu Sale on 3 September with a pre-sale estimate of £300,000 – 350,000. Other highlights include a three-owner 1953 Mercedes-Benz 300 S Coupe, originally owned by King Hussein of Jordan (estimate £200,000 – 250,000); a 1968 Aston Martin DB6 Series I Vantage (estimate £200,000 – 250,000); and a restoration project 1959 Aston Martin DB4, dry stored for the past 30 years (estimate £150,000 – 180,000).
Evocative 1970s colour schemes on offer include a restoration project two-owner 1974 BMW 3.0 CSL, resplendent in ‘ceylon’ gold (estimate £30,000 – 40,000) and a ‘Brilliant Green’ 1970 Morgan Plus 8, exhibited at that year’s Earls Court Motor Show (estimate £40,000 – 50,000).
Bonhams round off their month with the Robert White Collection sale - all proceeds benefitting two Dorset hospitals. Among the £2million collection of motorcycles, vintage Leica cameras, motoring mascots, and watches are four motor cars; a 1930 Bentley 4½-Litre Le Mans-style Tourer (estimate £200,000 – 250,000); a 1959 AC Ace-Bristol (estimate £180,000 – 220,000); a 1958 AC Ace (estimate £120,000 – 140,000); and a Pur Sang 'Type 51' (estimate £90,000 – 110,000).
Topping the inventory at Silverstone Auctions Salon Privé Sale on 3 September is a left-hand drive 2016 Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 SV Roadster (estimate £480,000 – 520,000), with just 59km on the odometer; a 1960 Aston Martin DB4 Series II (estimate £275,000 – 325,000), and a 9,008-mile 1982 Ferrari 512BBi (estimate £200,000 – 230,000).
Other low-mileage stars include a 1990 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II, stored for the first 10 years and now displaying just 885 miles (estimate £180,000 – 220,000); a 1,977-mile 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello (estimate £180,000 – 220,000); a 16,231-mile 1990 Audi Quattro Turbo 20v (estimate £60,000 – 70,000); and a 3,892-mile 2005 Aston Martin Vanquish S (estimate £145,000 – 165,000).
DVCA’s 8 September sale includes a restoration project 1973 MGB GT V8 with a pre-sale estimate of £3,500 – 5,500. The car was used by the vendor from 1980 until 1993, when it was taken off the road and stored.
Among the lots at Charterhouse’s 13 September sale is a two-owner 1973 Audi 80 GL coupé, which has covered 38,000 miles from new, with a pre-sale estimate of £8,000 – 10,000.
Heading the Jaguars on offer at Barons’ 17 September fixture is a 1964 E-Type Series I 3.8 FHC, estimated at £80,000 – 100,000. The car underwent a recent two year rebuild, during which it was converted to ‘Fast Road’ spec, and has covered some 2,000 since completion of the works.
Top lot at Brightwells’ 21 September sale is a 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL, estimated at £97,000 – 107,000. The car was imported from the US in 2012 and subjected to a three year nut-and-bolt restoration.
Classic Car Auctions’ 24 September sale features a left-hand drive manual gearbox 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello, with a pre-sale estimate of £65,000 – 75,000. Imported from Japan, and now showing 47,513km, the car is presented in Tour de France Blue with tan leather.
