A signature concept car of the 1970s is the highlight among the lots at Bonhams 5 September sale at Chantilly Arts & Elegance. The Maserati Boomerang was built as a one-off prototype unlike anything seen before, it used geometric shapes and ruler straight lines and was first unveiled at the 1971 Turin Motor Show. The Boomerang was also exhibited at the 1972 Geneva Motor Show, this time transformed to a fully operational vehicle. Developed over the chassis of the Maserati Bora, the Boomerang boasted an impressive 300bhp with a top speed of 300km/h and is still in working order and fully road registered.
Notable entries among the eight cars from the collection of French businessman and art collector Alain Dominique Perrin are; the 1977 Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL 6.9 that was originally owned by the French singer Claude François and in which he survived an attempted assassination; and a 1996 Aston Martin V8 Sportsman Shooting Brake estimated at €350,000 – 550,000.
Another car to be offered at Chantilly with a famous previous owner is the ex-Nicolas Cage 1954 Bugatti Type 101. One of only six 101s built, and the only one featuring this particular Antem designed coachwork, the car carries a pre-sale estimate of €1,500,000 – 1,800,000
Later in the month Bonhams heads to Denmark for their 48 car single-owner sale – the Frederiksen Collection.
