Iconic Auctioneers launches its 2024 calendar with a two-day sale at Race Retro on 23-24 February. Competition cars are first up, led by an ex-Works 2007 Ford Focus WRC that finished 4th on the 2008 Jordan Rally in the hands of Henning Solberg/Cato Menkerud, before the MotoGP-legend Valentino Rossi took it to a 12th place finish at the Wales Rally GB later the same year. Recently rebuilt by former M-Sport engineer Ronan McCrory to its original Works spec, Iconic have estimated it should fetch £340,000 – 380,000.
One of two Kaliber-liveried Ford Sierra RS 500s built by Andy Rouse for the 1988 British Touring Car Championship is set to go under the hammer with a guide of £240,000 – 280,000. Driven in period to four podiums by Guy Edwards, it’s described as ‘on the button’ with fresh FIA/HTP papers following a recent refurb, which included a Harvey Gibbs engine and a rebuilt Getrag gearbox and differential.
Highlights also include an ex-Dorset Racing 1972 Lola T212 (estimate £150,000 – 170,000), a multiple class-winning 1971 Ford Escort RS1600 Group 2 FIA Race Car, built by the Jordan Racing Team in 2021 (estimate £100,000 – 120,000), and a Ford Capri Group 1 that Gerry Marshall and Graham Scarborough drove to 2nd place in the 1981 Willhire 24 Hours – Marshall going on to claim both the BARC and BRSCC Production Saloon Car Championships that year with wins for the car at every race he entered (estimate £60,000 – 70,000).
Classic cars take centre stage on Saturday with homologation specials among the star attractions. A 48,974-mile 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B STi that was built for the Japanese domestic market, and has remained with the vendor’s family for the past 23 years, is listed at £190,000 – 220,000, while a 1984 Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 – one of 200 road cars – showing just 16,000km is £235,000 – 275,000.
Among the other low-mileage machinery on offer is a two-owner 2004 BMW M3 CSL, professionally stored since 2007 and only 947-miles from new (estimate £120,000 – 140,000); a barely-used UK-supplied 2015 Jaguar F-Type Project 7 with 71 miles (estimate £110,000 – 130,000); and a time-warp 6,233-mile 1990 Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9, one of 300 Special Editions in Miami Blue (estimate £40,000 – 50,000).
