Bonhams returns to the Belgium seaside resort of Knokke-Heist on 6 October with a 69-car entry for its Zoute Sale. The top three features an ex-Brussels Motor Show 1951 Ferrari 340 America, one of only two Touring-bodied Berlinettas built (estimate €3,000,000 – 4,000,000); an ex-Équipe Nationale Belge 1956 Porsche 550 RS Spyder that competed in the 1957 24 Hours of Le Mans (estimate €3,400,000 – 3,900,000); and a Swiss-delivered, one-owner 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss with only 50km from new (estimate €1,500,000 – 2,500,000).
Also consigned is a 1974 BMW 3.0 CSL Batmobile that started life as a BMW Motorsport test car, before being passed on to its legendary works driver Hans-Joachim Stuck. One of just 57 second series Batmobiles produced, it was restored in the mid-1990s under renowned CSL expert Yannick Bernat’s stewardship, during which time it received an Alpina B2 engine upgrade providing an additional 57bhp (estimate €300,000 – 400,000).
