A 1933 Pierce-Arrow Silver Arrow leads an impressive entry list at RM Sotheby’s traditional two-day Hershey sale on 5-6 October.
The multi-award winning car from the Thomas F. Derro Collection is the first Silver Arrow produced, its streamlined bodywork making its debut at the 1933 New York Auto Show (estimate $2,000,000 – 3,000,000).
Pre-war American cars dominate the 130+ inventory, star attractions include a 1935 Duesenberg Model J Cabriolet – also from the Derro Collection – with one-off coachwork by d’leteren (estimate $1,500,000 – 2,000,000); a Pebble Beach award-winning 1936 Cadillac V-16 Convertible Sedan, exhibited at Chicago’s Museum of Science & Industry from 1949 until 2008 (estimate $700,000 – 850,000); and a 1933 Packard Twelve Convertible Victoria, one of four surviving examples of the Tenth Series cars (estimate $475,000 – 600,000).
Elsewhere, a 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL is estimated at $125,000 – 150,000; a 1966 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 Series II, in single-family ownership from new, is $200,000 – 250,000; and a restored 1955 Jaguar XK 140 MC Roadster carries a pre-sale estimate of $125,000 – 150,000.
Headlining Bonham’s Philadelphia sale on 2 October is 1913 Rolls-Royce 40/50 Silver Ghost London-to-Edinburgh Tourer, estimated at $1,100,000 – 1,500,000. Chassis 2380 was delivered new to Boston in ‘colonial specification’ and has recently emerged from a comprehensive refurbishment.
Other notable entries include a 1929 Bentley 4½ Litre 'Le Mans Replica' (estimate $600,000 – 700,000); a 1924 Bentley 3 Litre Speed Tourer, with known history from new (estimate $250,000 – 350,000); and a two-owner 1913 Stevens-Duryea Model C 6 Five-Passenger Touring, in current ownership since 1946 (estimate $150,000 – 225,000).
Post-war machinery on offer include a three-owner 1963 Chevrolet Corvette 327/360hp Roadster (estimate $75,000 – 100,000); a recently-restored 1963 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III (estimate $50,000 – 80,000); and a 75,000-mile 1988 BMW M6 (estimate $40,000 – 50,000).
