H&H are set to top the charts in October with their sale of two multi-million-pound Ferraris from the estate of the late Richard Colton. As part of a generous legacy, the cars are being offered at no reserve, with all the sale proceeds going to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
The jewel in the collection is a 1960 250 GT SWB, one of only 167 examples built, of which just ten were supplied new to the UK market. Mr Colton bought chassis number 1995 GT in the '70s and covered some 60,000 miles in it. The car has never been ‘restored’ in the modern sense and is expected to make £5,000,000 – 7,000,000.
The other star attraction among the cars on offer from the Colton collection is a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4. Chassis number 10177 GT was purchased by Colton in 1974 and used extensively throughout the UK and Europe. Now showing 78,000 miles, it is expected to fetch £1,500,000 – 2,000,000.
Elsewhere in the sale a pair of Jaguars with interesting histories are on offer; a 1976 XJ12C driven by Patrick Macnee in The New Avengers TV series, in need of complete restoration but still wearing its Broadspeed bodykit (estimate £10,000 – 12,000); and a 1971 Jaguar E-Type Series III used by the footballing legend George Best (estimate £40,000 – 60,000).
Bonhams will be holding an auction of Veteran Motor Cars on 30 October, scheduled to coincide with the annual London to Brighton Veteran Car Run. The sale will feature 12 eligible Brighton Run Vehicles, with the top lot being a 1903 Clement Model AC4R Rear Entrance Tonneau (estimate £400,000 – 500,000).
Coys return to Ascot on 10 October for their Spirit of Motoring sale, headed by a 1937 SS Jaguar 100 2½ Litre. Other highlights include; a 1957 Mercedes-Benz 220S Cabriolet, one of 20 produced (estimate £28,000 – 38,000); a one-owner 1972 Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible (estimate £22,000 – 28,000); and a 22,000-mile 1999 Ferrari 355 GTS F1, one of 74 UK cars (estimate £78,000 – 90,000).
Silverstone Auction’s one-marque Porsche Sale takes place on 25 October, with 58 cars going under the hammer. Highlights include; a 911 50 (estimate £125,000 – 150,000); a 9,571-mile 1974 911 S 2.7 (estimate £80,000 – 90,000); and a 1989 911 Turbo LE with a pre-sale estimate of £100,000 – 120,000.
The 911 50 started life in 1977 as a UK-delivered 911 Lux and was transformed by Porsche Central Operations in Reading in 2014 to celebrate 50 years of the 911. The design brief was to create a no expense spared 1970's RS replica with additional modifications to reflect the 911's evolution.
A 1960 Jaguar XK 150 S is the star lot at DVCA’s 15 October sale with a pre-sale estimate of £70,000 – 80,000. Other notable entries include three pre-war Rolls-Royces; a 1926 20hp estimated at £45,000 – 55,000; a 1929 20hp estimated at £35,000 – 45,000; and a 1935 20/25 with an estimate of £45,000 – 50,000.
Richard Edmonds have consigned a two-owner 1967 Lancia Flavia Sport Zagato in their 25 October sale. The car has been in a private collection since 2003 and requires some re-commissioning before returning to the road (estimate £20,000 – 22,000).
A 9,289-mile 1984 AC 3000ME is due to go across the block at Barons on 27 October. The two-owner car carries a pre-sale estimate of £20,000 – 40,000.
Three days later SWVA will offer a 1971 Maserati Indy 4.7 with a pre-sale estimate of £21,000 – 28,000. Purchased by the vendor with around 60,000 miles on the clock in 1984, the car has since covered a further 15,000 under his stewardship.
