Sotheby’s are set to offer an ex-Michael Schumacher 2001 Ferrari F2001 curated by RM Sotheby’s at the Contemporary Art Evening Auction on 16 November in New York. Chassis 211 was campaigned by Schumacher during the 2001 Formula 1 season, achieving wins at Monaco and Hungary; securing the Drivers’ crown for the legendary German and giving Ferrari its 11th Constructors’ title (estimate $4,000,000 – 5,500,000).
Bonhams heads to southern California for the sale of The Bothwell Collection on 11 November. One of the stars among the 50 pre-war racing cars and automobiles crossing the block is a 1914 Peugeot L45 which ran in the 1916 Indianapolis 500. Owned by Lindley Bothwell since 1949, the car is the sole surviving example of the Charlatans Peugeots with Grand Prix history, and carries a pre-sale estimate of $3,000,000 – 5,000,000.
The collection also features a magnificent 1908 Benz 75/105HP Prinz-Heinrich Raceabout, one of only 10 built (estimate $1,000,000 – 1,500,000) and a 1908 Mercedes-Simplex 65hp Two Seater Raceabout, believed to have been originally owned by William K. Vanderbilt (estimate $900,000 – 1,200,000).
