A 3,666-mile McLaren P1 heads the line-up at Silverstone Auctions on 22 May, with a pre-sale estimate of £885,000 – 985,000. Chassis number 023 is the first P1 delivered to a customer and has remained in the UK with two owners from the same family since new.
Other barely used machinery includes a 12,000-mile 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL from a private collection (estimate £85,000 – 100,000); a 1991 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth with one owner and 13,865 miles (estimate £60,000 – 70,000); and a 5,400-km 1995 Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evo 2, number 92 out of 250 ‘Edizione Finale’ examples (estimate £145,000 – 165,000).
Among the competition cars, Petter Solberg’s 2004 Rally Japan-winning Subaru Impreza S10 WRC – recently restored by Prodrive – is catalogued at £385,000 – 450,000; while a 1970 Blydenstein Vauxhall/Lotus Viva HC that claimed the 1971 and ’72 Irish Saloon Car Championship in the hands of Des Donnelly carries a guide of £60,000 – 70,000.

A brace of Aston Martins feature among the ‘young timers’ on offer at H&H’s 12 May online auction; a 20,825-mile DB9 in Midnight Blue at £30,000 – 34,000, and a two-owner 2010 Rapide with 87,700 miles entered at £24,000 – 28,000.

Historics are back at Ascot Racecourse on 15 May where the highlights include a restored 1958 Ferrari 250 GT Coupe (estimate £360,000 – 410,000), a single-owner 2012 Aston Martin V12 Zagato Prototype (estimate £540,000 – 620,000), and a 1974 Alpine A110 1600S that finished third in class at the 1975 Targa Florio (estimate £105,000 – 135,000).

A left-hand drive 1961 AC Ace that has been owned by the consignor since 1971 is set to cross the block at Bonhams’ Bond Street sale, listed at £240,000 – 280,000. Coming with a known history from new and the original bill of sale, the car is one of only 36 production models built with a 2.6-litre Ford engine, and has covered some 43,000km since the -completion of a 12-year restoration in 2006.
Italian exotica includes a 1969 De Tomaso Mangusta, restored by marque specialist Roger Brotton at a cost of £250,000 (estimate £200,000 – 250,000); a 57,000-km 1982 De Tomaso Pantera GT5, recently imported into the UK from South Africa (estimate £120,000 – 160,000); and a concours-winning 1976 Maserati Khamsin with Maserati Classiche certification (estimate £120,000 – 150,000).

A 1963 Aston Martin Lagonda Rapide is the star attraction at Brightwells timed online auction, with bidding closing on 13 May. Guided at £120,000 – 150,000, the vendor estimates he has spent in excess of £115,000 during his 18 year period of ownership, commissioning a bare-metal repaint, engine rebuild, interior refurb and brake overhaul – with few miles covered since.
Other highlights include a 1947 Bristol 400, used by the factory as a demonstrator and development car during its early years (estimate £68,000 – 75,000); a 1971 Fiat Dino 2400 Coupe, maintained by marque expert Mark Devaney at 24 Hundred (estimate £45,000 – 55,000); and a UK-supplied 80,000-mile 1979 Ford Escort RS2000 which spent the majority of its life in the Isle of Man before joining a private collection in Ireland, where it has resided since 2014 (estimate £22,000 – 27,000).

Richard Edmonds’ first sale of the year is due to take place on 23 May, with a magnificent 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Supercharged Super Sport heading the roster (estimate £650,000 – 750,000). Offered from the estate of the late Michael Hirst who purchased the car in 1961, chassis 0312931 retains its original Zagato body with a replacement 1750 SS engine fitted in the 1950s.
Early entries for H&H’s Imperial War Museum sale on 26 May include a 1935 Lagonda M45 Rapide Three Position Drophead Coupe, one of 53 built (estimate £140,000 – 160,000); a 43,500-mile 1989 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL in Anthracite/Grey Hide (estimate £30,000 – 40,000); and a 1978 Lancia Beta Montecarlo which emerged from a 4-year £38,000 restoration in 2011 (estate £12,500 – 14,500).
