Bonhams and RM Sotheby’s return to Monaco for the biennial Grand Prix Historique, with the UK auction house getting proceedings underway on 11 May. Star attractions among the competition machinery on offer include a brace of ex-Ayrton Senna F1 cars; the 1993 Monaco Grand Prix-winning McLaren-Cosworth Ford MP4/8A and the 1984 Toleman-Hart TG184 in which Senna famously chased down Prost in his inaugural Monaco GP (estimate €750,000 – 1,000,000).
Also consigned is an ex-works 1953 Ferrari 625 TF – one of just two spiders built – which finished fourth in the hands of Mike Hawthorn on its debut at that year’s Grand Prix at Monza (estimate €4,500,000 – 6,500,00).
Other highlights include a 1931 Bentley 8-Litre Tourer (estimate €800,000 – 1,000,000); a 1980 BMW M1, recently refurbished at a cost of €60,000 by BMW Classic (estimate €540,000 – 580,000); a 1953 Alfa Romeo 1900 Corto Gara Stradale Coupé, believed to be one of just two remaining examples (estimate €380,000 – 460,000); and a restored 1974 BMW 2002 Turbo showing some 44,800km (estimate €80,000 – 120,000).

Chassis 0879 GT was sold new to Wolfgang Seidel who campaigned the car successfully in period, notably finishing 2nd overall at the 1958 Grand Prix of Spa and 4th overall two months later, when co-driven by Wolfgang von Trips at the 12 Hours of Reims (estimate €7,000,000 – 9,000,000).
A 2015 Ferrari Sergio carries a pre-sale estimate of €2,500,000 – 3,000,000. One of six built, RM’s example was displayed at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and has covered less than 200km from new.
Other top-tier entries include an ex-Leo Kinnunen 63,213-km 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Lightweight, optioned with the unique tea-tray spoiler and wider ST arches from new (estimate €1,400,000 – 1,800,000); a 2015 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse with just 840km; and a 2018 RUF CTR3 Clubsport (estimate €800,000 – 900,000).
