A 1928 Mercedes-Benz 680 S Torpedo-Sport Avant-Garde is one of the stars among the early consignments for RM Sotheby’s Villa Erba sale on 27 May. Chassis 35949 is the sole survivor of just three examples built by Saoutchik with a short-windshield design, and features a disappearing convertible top and lizard skin interior. Exhibited at the 1929 New York Auto Salon, the car picked up the Best of Show at 2012 Pebble Beach and First in Class at 2013 Villa d’Este (estimate €6,500,000 – 8,000,000).
Other significant pre-war entries include a 1937 Talbot-Lago T150-C SS 'Goutte d’Eau' Coupé (estimate €3,200,000 – 3,800,000); a 1935 Bugatti Type 57 Atalante Prototype, in single-family ownership for 62 years (estimate €2,800,000 – 3,200,000); and a 1930 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Gran Sport Spider with period racing history (estimate €2,200,000 – 2,600,000).
Late-model limited production run cars on offer include a 360-km 2016 McLaren P1 GTR, one of 27 converted for road use (estimate €3,200,000 – 3,600,000); a 200-km 2014 Ferrari LaFerrari (estimate €2,750,000 – 3,200,000); a 2015 Porsche 918 'Weissach' Spyder with less than 11,000kms from new (estimate €1,200,000 – 1,400,000); and a 1,000-km 2016 Porsche 911 R (estimate €390,000 – 440,000).
Notable entries at Osenat’s 1 May sale include a 1929 Lorraine-Dietrich B3-6 Sport 15 HM Le Mans (estimate €500,000 – 700,000); a c.1928 Bugatti Type 40 (estimate €200,000 – 300,000); a 1971 De Tomaso Pantera – one of three Panteras on offer (estimate €120,000 – 150,000); and a 1939 Citroën Traction 11 BL Cabriolet (estimate €90,000 – 120,000).
Stanislas Machoïr’s 5 May sale takes place during the WEC weekend at the Spa Francorchamps circuit. Top lots include a 1959 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2, originally used as Enzo Ferrari’s personal car during which time it was fitted with a 4 litre Superamerica engine (estimate €800,000 – 1,000,000); a 1994 Venturi 600 LM – winner of the Paris 1000 kms (estimate €800,000 – 1,000,000); a 1928 1928 Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 (estimate €800,000 – 1,000,000); and a 1964 Ferrari 330 GTO Replica, built in the 1980’s by Alain Garnier using a Ferrari 330 with a 4-litre V12 (estimate €700,000 – 900,000).
Three weeks later the circuit plays host to Bonhams’ Spa Classic Sale where the 1991 Canadian GP winning Benetton-Ford B191 – driven by Piquet and Schumacher in period – is estimated at €750,000 – 950,000.
A 12-car ‘castle find’ collection – all offered without reserve – includes a 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster (estimate €600,000 – 800,000); a 1921 Rolls-Royce 40/50hp Silver Ghost Phaeton (estimate €100,000 – 150,000); a 1969 Maserati Ghibli SS 4.9 (estimate €100,000 – 150,000); and a 1971 Lamborghini Espada (estimate €70,000 – 110,000).
Elsewhere in the sale, competition cars on offer include an ex-Edgar Dören 1976 Porsche 934/5 Kremer Group 4 (estimate €320,000 – 400,000); a 1969 Alfa Romeo GTA 1300 Junior (estimate €290,000 – 340,000); and a 1965 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Semi-Lightweight Competition Roadster (€260,000 – 320,000).
