Michael Caine’s first car is one of the stars at H&H’s Imperial War Museum sale on 15 March, estimated to fetch £100,000 – 150,000. The Rolls-Royce Drophead Coupé was purchased new by the actor in 1968 and retained by him for two years before passing to Jack Leach, owner of the famous Gasworks restaurant in Chelsea. Leach kept the Silver Shadow until his death in 2013, and under the consignor’s stewardship it’s had close to £100,000 spent on restoration works, returning it back to its original scheme of black over magnolia leather.
Other British classics on offer include a 1939 Lagonda V12 Drophead Coupe, restored in the mid-2000s after 40 years in storage (estimate £250,000 – 300,000); a 1923 Bentley 3 Litre Tourer, believed to have been raced at Brooklands by Cecil Wingfield Twistleton-Wykeham-Fiennes (estimate £140,000 – 180,000); and a UK-delivered 1961 Jaguar E-Type Flat Floor Roadster (estimate £70,000 – 90,000).
An 11,800-mile 1988 Ford RS200 heads the contemporary machinery, one of just 49 left-hand drive examples in road-going spec it carries a guide of £180,000 – 220,000, while a one-owner 1991 Honda NSX with 33,400km is £70,000 – 80,000.

Classic Car Auctions returns to the Classic Car and Restoration Show at the NEC for a two-day sale kicking off on 25 March, with over 220 cars set to go under the hammer. Top lot is a right-hand drive 1970 Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 showing 39,400 miles, offered at no reserve from a private collection (estimate £80,000 – 100,000).
The sale also includes a 115,000-mile, nut-and-bolt restored 1991 Audi Quattro 20V listed at £55,000 – 65,000 and a 1971 Ford Capri 3000 GT XLR Comanche at £50,000 – 60,000. The single-owner Capri has travelled less than 37,000 miles from new and features Jeff Uren’s highest-spec 190bhp ‘Comanche’ conversion, liberating an extra 55bhp.
