Gooding and Company will offer an ex-Works Martini-liveried 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 2.1 Turbo at its Amelia Island auction on 9 March with a pre-sale estimate of $6,000,000 – 8,000,000. Known within Porsche’s racing department as R13, it was the last of the four RSR Turbos built, and its competition career included four rounds of the 1974 FIA World Championship of Makes – topped by a fine second place finish on its debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the hands of Herbert Müller and Gijs van Lennep.
Other competition Porsches include a 962 C which was campaigned by Brun Motorsport, notably starting on the front row of the grid for the 1990 24 Hours of Le Mans (estimate $1,500,000 – 2,000,000); and a 934 which won the 1978 FIA Group 4 Championship (estimate $1,200,000 – 1,600,000).
Among the other top-tier entries, a 1956 Ferrari 410 Superamerica Series I with just three owners and 12,000km from new is estimated at $5,000,000 – 6,000,000; and a barn find 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB Long Nose Alloy which was discovered after 27 years stored alongside a 1967 Shelby Cobra 427 (estimate $1,000,000 – 1,300,000) is guided at $2,500,000 – 3,250,000.
Bonhams’ kicks off the Amelia Island sales on 8 March where the star attraction is a 20,300-mile 1973 Ferrari 365 GTS/4. Chassis 16801 is one of the 123 factory Spider Daytonas and formed part of Peter Livanos’ collection for nearly 20 years from the late 1990s (estimate $2,400,000 – 2,700,000).
Other significant entries include a one-owner 360-mile 2015 McLaren P1 (estimate $1,800,000 – 2,000,000); a 1996 Porsche 911 GT2 with 41,902km (estimate $1,100,000 – 1,300,000); a 1928 Minerva AK "SilentLyte" Town Car (estimate $750,000 – 850,000); and a 1959 Porsche 356 A 1600 Carrera GS, one of around 225 examples produced, which was the subject of a comprehensive restoration in the ‘90s (estimate $650,000 – 750,000).
A unique Pinin Farina bodied 1947 Delahaye 135 MS Coupé carries an estimate of $400,000 – 500,000, while other French machinery includes a 1950 Delahaye 135M Cabriolet with coachwork by Saoutchik (estimate $300,000 – 400,000); a 1927 Georges Irat Model A Cabriolet which was exhibited at the 1927 Paris Automobile Salon (estimate $150,000 – 200,000); and a 1961 Facel Vega HK500 (estimate $150,000 – 200,000).
A 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB presented in its original colours of Rosso Rubino/Nero heads the entries at RM Sotheby’s 20th annual Amelia Island sale on 10 March, with an estimate of $2,200,000 – 2,500,000.
RM’s sale will also feature the 12-car Porsche 964 Collection, built up over a 10 year period by a single collector. Highlights include a 765-km 1993 911 RSR 3.8, one of 55 built (estimate $1,200,000 – 1,400,000); a 6,825-km 1993 911 RS 3.8, again one of just 55 examples produced (estimate $1,250,000 – 1,500,000); and a one-of-86 1993 911 Turbo S 'Leichtbau' which has covered 36,142km from new (estimate $1,000,000 – 1,200,000).
Elsewhere, a 1937 SS 100 Jaguar 2½-Litre offered from the James F. Scott Collection is estimated at $400,000 – 500,000; a 1,269km 1991 Lamborghini LM002 is $200,000 – 250,000; and a 1965 Meyers Manxter 2+2 is catalogued at $40,000 – 50,000.
