Amongst the 100 lots on offer at RM Auctions' Amelia Island sale are two of Jaguar’s iconic competition cars; a 1955 D-Type and a 1988 XJR-9. The D-Type is chassis number XKD 530, one of the fifty-four examples produced for privateer customers, and carries a pre-sale estimate of $3,750,000 – 4,250,000. The XJR-9 is the sole remaining example of the two cars built and had a successful racing career, which included a win at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1990 in the hands of Davy Jones, Jan Lammers and Andy Wallace (estimate $3,000,000 – 5,000,000).
An 18,000-mile 1967 Shelby 427 ‘Semi-Competition’ Cobra, one of only 29 examples of its type, is offered with an estimate of $2,200,000 – 2,500,000. Two notable Japanese cars in the sale are a 1968 Toyota 2000GT (estimate $900,000 – 1,100,000) and what is described as the 'holy grail' of all Z machines – a 1970 Nissan Fairlady Z 432. One of only 420 examples built, the Nissan is offered without reserve (estimate $150,000 – 200,000).
Headlining the Bonhams sale on 12 March 2015 will be a number of pre-war models; a 1930 Cord Model L-29 Town Car, a 1934 Mercedes-Benz 500K (estimate $1,250,000 – 1,500,000), a 1908 American Underslung 50hp Roadster (estimate $1,100,000 – 1,200,000) and a 1932 Stutz DV-32 Super Bearcat (estimate $850,000 – 1,200,000).
Supercar offerings include; a 1992 Ferrari F40, the last US-Spec car built (estimate $1,200,000 – 1,400,000); a 1983 Lamborghini Countach LP500S with less than 10,500km (estimate $425,000 – 500,000); and a 1981 BMW M1 with fewer than 7,600 miles (estimate $400,000 – 450,000).
Whilst the stars of Gooding and Company’s sale, in dollar terms, are likely to be a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 (estimate $3,400,000 – 3,800,000) and a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT Series II Cabriolet (estimate $2,000,000 – 2,500,000), plenty of interest will no doubt surround the ex-Héctor Rebaque 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 RSR. This car has an impressive racing history including a first place overall in the 1000 Km of Mexico City, a second in class in the 24 Hours of Daytona and a class win in the 12 Hours of Sebring (estimate $1,200,000 – 1,500,000).
Also on offer is a 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS, one of the last to be produced. The car is one of less than 300 Dinos factory built as a 'Chairs and Flares' model and has covered 24,000 miles from new (estimate $500,000 – 600,000).
