23 cars from The Private Collection of Carroll Shelby are set to cross the block at the Bonhams Greenwich Concours d'Elegance sale on 3 June, all offered without reserve. Highlights among the collection include a 974-mile Shelby Cobra, built as part of the ‘Continuation Series’ (estimate $100,000 – 125,000); the first of the 249 Shelby Series 1s produced (estimate $100,000 – 125,000); and an unrestored 1969 Shelby GT500 with less than 65,000 miles from new (estimate $80,000 – 100,000).
Elsewhere, a 1965 Aston Martin DB5 Convertible heads the 100-plus entry list. The two-owner car is one of just 39 left-hand drive examples built in period and is presented in its original combination of Goodwood Green over beige hide (estimate $2,000,000 – 2,500,000).
Rounding out the top five; an unrestored 1959 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster which has been owned by the vendor for close to 50 years is estimated at $1,100,000 – 1,300,000; a two-owner 10,000-mile 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition is $395,000 – 420,000; a 1914 Lozier Model 77 Five Passenger Touring Car is guided at $300,000 – 400,000, as is a one-of-25 1954 Cunningham C-3.
RM Auctions will hold a two-day sale on 24-25 June, featuring the final 750-lot instalment from the Michael Dingman collection. Ford vehicles dominate the 37 cars on offer, topped by a 1995 Roush Mustang Cobra SCCA Trans Am car (estimate $300,000 – 400,000).
Other notable entries include a 1939 Lincoln-Zephyr Convertible which was the subject of a $215,000 restoration by Kevin Westmoreland following Dingman’s purchase in 2002 (estimate $190,000 – 220,000); a 2,400-mile 2006 Ford GT (estimate $300,000 – 350,000); and a 1932 Ford High Boy Roadster “Blue Boy”, built by Longley Restorations (estimate $80,000 – 100,000).
