Big-hitters at Bonhams’ Goodwood Festival of Speed sale on 30 June include a 1962 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster (estimate £850,000 – 950,000); a 1931 Bentley 8-Litre Sedanca de Ville, first owned by Lord Brougham & Vaux (estimate £750,000 – 900,000); and a 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 showing circa 41,000 miles (estimate £500,000 – 600,000).
Notable Porsches include a 1957 Porsche 356A Carrera Speedster GS/GT – one of just three right-hand drive examples produced (estimate £900,000 – 1,000,000); a 1973 Porsche 911 2.7 Carrera RS Lightweight, the subject of a two-year restoration in the late 1990s (estimate £750,000 – 850,000); a 2010 Porsche 977 GT2 RS (estimate £290,000 – 340,000); and a 1993 Porsche 911 Turbo X88 (estimate £250,000 – 300,000).
Pre-war offerings include a 1911 Mercedes Simplex 28/50hp 'Roi des Belges' Tourer, in single family ownership since 1957 (estimate £300,000 – 400,000); a 1914 Rolls-Royce 40/50hp Silver Ghost Open Tourer, formerly the property of His Highness the Maharana Sir Fateh Singh Bahadur of Udaipur (estimate £300,000 – 400,000); the ex-Col.Sorel, Col.Giles and David Scott-Moncrieff 1930 Bugatti Type 46 (estimate £160,000 – 200,000); and a 1908 Hotchkiss T 16/20 (estimate £80,000 – 90,000).
The sale also features a 1973 ISO Grifo Series II (estimate £200,000 – 250,000); a 1965 McLaren M1B with period Can-Am history (estimate £200,000 – 250,000); a 14,000-km 1990 De Tomaso Pantera GT5-S which has spent 20 years in a private collection (estimate £140,000 – 180,000); and a 1974 Lamborghini Jarama S, one of only 18 right-hand drive 'S' models built (estimate £120,000 – 150,000).
H&H are set to host two sales in June, kicking off at the National Motorcycle Museum on the 2nd. Top lots include a 1974 BMW 3.0 CSi (estimate £40,000 – 50,000); a 1971 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 Coupe (estimate £40,000 – 50,000); and a 1939 Triumph Dolomite 14/60 Drophead Coupe (estimate £30,000 – 35,000).
Four days later H&H head to the RAC’s Surrey outpost at Woodcote Park where British cars dominate the top-tier entries; a 1964 Aston Martin DB5 which has been in single family ownership from 1964-2005 is estimated at £700,000 – 800,000; a 1956 Bentley S1 Continental Fastback is £360,000 – 400,000; and a 1966 Aston Martin DB6 Vantage – stored since the early 1990s – is £180,000 – 220,000.
A 1996 Subaru Impreza WRC 97 goes under the hammer with a pre-sale estimate of £175,000 – 200,000. Chassis 001 started life as a test and development car in the hands of Colin McRae amongst others, prior to enjoying rally success in period. The car was comprehensively restored by Prodrive to ‘original’ condition, with the works documented in a book which accompanied its handover in 2009.
Mathewsons has consigned a 1984 Ferrari 308 GTS QV for its sale on 3 June. Stored since 2003, the car currently shows some 37,000 miles (estimate £50,000 – 70,000).
A stalled restoration project 1964 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8 Roadster is the star attraction at DVCA’s 8 June sale. The right-hand drive car was originally supplied new to Hong Kong and has been stored in a dry garage since 1984 (estimate £50,000 – 55,000).
Over 160 lots are set to cross the block at Classic Car Auctions on 10 June. Highlights include a 1978 Daimler Sovereign 4.2 LWB with only 399 miles from new (estimate £25,000 – 30,000); a 1981 Alpine A310 (estimate £18,000 – 22,000); a 19,000-mile 1982 BMW 635 CSi (estimate £25,000 – 30,000); and a 1966 Austin Mini Cooper, fitted with a Downton ‘Touring’ conversion in 1967 prior to export (estimate £35,000 – 40,000).
Barons 13 June sale includes three left-hand drive Porsche 912s; a four-owner 1966 example (estimate £29,000 – 34,000); a 1968 car which was recently imported from California (estimate £30,000 – 35,000); and a restoration project with a pre-sale estimate of £25,000 – 32,000.
Anglia Car Auctions regularly unearth chrome bumper BMWs and their 17 June sale is no exception; a three-owner 116,839-mile 1972 BMW 3.0 CSL is estimated at £70,000 – 80,000; and a 1976 BMW 3.0 Si in need of restoration is £2,500 – 3,500.
Topping the inventory at Richard Edmonds sale on 17 June is a 1931 Lagonda 2 Litre Supercharged Low Chassis Tourer. ‘GT 910’ has been in just two long term ownerships since 1953, one of whom was the late Phil Ridout – a renowned marque expert – who carried out the car's restoration (estimate £90,000 – 120,000).
A pre-war car also heads the entries the following day at Charterhouse, where a 1936 Alvis Speed T20 SD Tourer is estimated at £100,000 – 110,000. Chassis 13085 started life with a Charlesworth four door saloon body, which remained until 1996/7 when a new ash frame and Vanden Plas 4.3 litre-style aluminium tourer body was fitted.
The first of Brightwells’ two auctions in June takes place at its Leominster base on the 22nd. Star car at the ‘Modern Classics’ sale is a 1995 Porsche 911 Turbo with a pre-sale estimate of £60,000 – 70,000.
Two days later Brightwells host a sale at Bicester’s Flywheel Festival. Early entries include a comprehensively restored 1973 BMW 2002 tii (estimate £17,500 – 19,500); a 1930 Delage D8 Vanden Plas, one of just three examples built by Vanden Plas (estimate £150,000 - £170,000); a 1976 Ferrari 308 GTB Vetroresina (estimate £70,000 – 90,000); and a 47,800-mile 1985 Lamborghini Jalpa (estimate £70,000 – 80,000).
