Artcurial’s 1969 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Competizione Group IV heads the entries at the Le Mans Classic sale, which takes place on 7 July. Chassis 12467, the second of the two prototypes built, was initially campaigned by Luigi Chinetti’s N.A.R.T. – North American Racing Team – with its finest hour being a 5th place overall at the 1971 Le Mans 24 Hours in the hands of Bob Grossman and Luigi’s son ‘Coco’ Chinetti (estimate €6,500,000 – 7,500,000).
Other competition cars include a 1976/1983 Ferrari 308 GTB Group B, one of 15 308s built by Michelotto to Group B/Group IV spec (estimate €800,000 – 1,000,000); an ex-Harald Ertl 1979 Ford Capri Zakspeed Turbo Group 5 (estimate €550,000 – 750,000); and a 1977 Alpine A110 Group IV " BIS " 1800 VB which has covered just 1,700km since its recent restoration (estimate €220,000 – 250,000).
A brace of Mercedes-Benz 300 SLs are being offered at no reserve following the death of their Swedish owner Gunnar Giermark. The 1963 Roadster which has not been driven since 1972 is a true time-warp machine. Owned by Giermark from new, the car has covered just 1,372km and comes complete with its original Mercedes-Benz wooden crate containing the soft top that has never been removed, plus a wealth of documentation in as-new condition (estimate €1,500,000 – 2,000,000). The 67,470-km 1956 Gullwing was purchased by Giermark in 1968 and driven regularly until it joined the Roadster in dry storage in 1973 (estimate €1,000,000 – 1,500,000).
Monaco Legend Auctions will celebrate the 55th anniversaries of two design icons, the Rolex Daytona Cosmograph and Porsche’s 911, with a sale in the Principality on 19 July.
