August is traditionally a relatively quiet month for European auctions, with the major focus centred on the annual Monterey sales in America.
Among the early entries announced for ACA’s 26 August sale is a 1958 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL, estimated at £90,000 – 110,000. This left-hand drive example was sold new to its first owner in Los Angeles and has been owned by the consignor since 2004, only recently emerging from the completion of a ten-year restoration.
Other ‘summer motoring’ machinery on offer includes a 1934 Alvis Speed 20 Special, with an extensive history from new (estimate £35,000 – 45,000); a late-model 1975 BMW 2002 Baur Cabriolet (estimate £6,500 – 8,500); a left-hand drive 1985 Ferrari 308 GTS QV (estimate £46,000 – 50,000); and a 1954 Swallow Doretti with a pre-sale estimate of £32,000 – 38,000.
A restored 1974 Rover 3500S Estate Car is set to go under the hammer at Mathewsons on 12 August, estimated at £15,000 – 16,000. Believed to be one of only eight manual V8s produced, the car comes complete with the original dealer pack, receipts, MOT certificates and a photographic record of the restoration.
Ferraris are among the stars at Brightwells’ Modern Classics sale on 17 August; a 49,000-km 2004 Ferrari 360 Modena, supplied new to the UAE, carries an estimate of £60,000 – 70,000; a left-hand drive 50,000-km 1995 Ferrari F355, with a recent service and bills for £15,000, is estimated at £55,000 – 60,000; and a 1990 Ferrari 348 ts with 44,000 miles from new is £45,000 – 50,000.
Other highlights include a 1996 Aston Martin DB7 with the service book showing 20 stamps (estimate £19,000 – 21,000); a 41,150-mile 1987 Lotus Esprit S3 (estimate £20,000 – 25,000); and a one-owner 1991 Honda NSX, recently recommissioned following five years in storage (estimate £30,000 – 35,000).
Among the lots heading to Morris Leslie’s 19 August sale is a manual-gearbox 1964 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL estimated at £50,000 – 55,000; a Vegantune-engined 1968 Lotus Elan 2+2 (estimate £12,000 – 14,000); a 63,561-mile 1986 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth (estimate £40,000 – 45,000); and a 1964 Lotus Super 7 Series 2 (estimate £24,000 – 26,000).
