Blue-chip entries with Le Mans history head the line-up at Broad Arrow Auctions’ Amelia sale on 7-8 March, with a 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider Competizione listed at $10,000,000 – 14,000,000 and a 1954 Jaguar D-Type at $6,500,000 – 8,500,000. The Ferrari is one of only eight aluminium-bodied examples, and its standout performance came in the 1959 24 Hours where it finished 5th overall in the hands of its first owner Bob Grossman, running under Luigi Chinetti’s legendary North American Racing Team banner.
The D-Type, on offer without reserve, is an ex-Works car famously known as ‘OKV 2’. It debuted at the 1954 Le Mans race as the lead car with Stirling Moss and Peter Walker at the helm and set the fastest time in practice, leading the race until retiring at midnight with brake issues.
Pre-merger AMG Mercedes have enjoyed considerable gains over recent years, with some of the strongest performers being the ‘wide-body’ coupes. Broad Arrow’s 500 SEC 6.0 AMG is one of the lowest mileage examples to come to market with just 4,943km, and boasts complete ownership history and one keeper between 2004 and 2021 (estimate $500,000 – 600,000).

Gooding & Company gets its two-day Amelia Island auction underway on 6 March, where the star attraction is a 1955 Ferrari 375 MM Berlinetta which has resided in Fred Leydorf’s collection since 1969. A remarkable file of documentation accompanies this three-owner car, together with a box of spare service parts originally supplied by Ferrari when new (estimate $8,000,000 – 10,000,000).
A time-warp two-owner 1989 RUF CTR 'Yellowbird' with less than 1,700km is expected to fetch in excess of $6,000,000 when it crosses the block. One of only 29 built, the CTR was the fastest car in the world when it was launched in 1987, Road & Track magazine recording a top speed of 211 mph.
Other highlights include a 1963 Ferrari 400 Superamerica that was exhibited by Luigi Chinetti Motors at the 1963 New York International Auto Show (estimate $2,500,000 – 3,000,000); a 1968 Lamborghini Miura S, registered for the first time in 2017 after the completion of an exacting restoration by renowned marque specialists and now showing just over 7,800km (estimate $2,500,000 – 3,000,000); and a 1935 Avions Voisin C25 Aérodyne, one of three known surviving examples, it was awarded the Vitesse Elegance Trophy at the 2022 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance (estimate $2,000,000 – 2,500,000).
